After sharing the information for an upcoming long-drive contest to be held at Texarkana Golf Ranch benefitting the Bunch Woodview and Cornerstone Healthy Living Community with “Fidget Blankets”. I wanted to share more about the need for these “fidget blankets”.
I remember my Granny getting together with her friends and doing some “quilting”. She loved it! So, after hearing about these blankets designed to help calm those that suffer from Alzheimers and Dementia. There are lots of ideas for designs, but blankets are made with different textured fabrics with other gadgets and what-nots sewn on for patients to “fidget” with. Patients from Bunch Woodview and Cornerstone have benefited from these blankets, with rave reviews from the families and staff. We reached out to Monica Beeman about the Fidget Blankets here locally,
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Residents at Bunch Woodview, Memory Support Center at Cornerstone will each have their own ‘Busy Blanket or Fidget Blanket’. They are lap size that are colorful with a lot of textures, zippers, gadgets. Helps with sensory stimulation and to keep their hands busy with occupying their mind to reduce the potential of agitation. Someone with Alzheimer’s is very sedentary most of the time and this allows them to be doing something with their hands. A dear friend of mine is hand quilting them for every resident, 35 of them actually!
A Long-Drive Competition is planned to help with funds for these blankets, but for information to make monetary donations, donate materials, or perhaps volunteer to sew some blankets contact, Monica Beeman.
