Being a police officer has always been a dangerous gig, but these days with the world the way it is, we are grateful that these two police officers will make full recoveries. Check this out!

    Media Release:

Two of our officers were injured when they tried to arrest 30 year old Michael Hawkins on Tuesday afternoon.
About 3:30, Officers Lauren Freeman and Chastina Wilburn were dispatched to a disturbance call in the 1400 block of College Drive after Hawkins got into an argument with his mother while she was driving down the road. The officers made contact with Michael Hawkins while he was sitting alone inside the vehicle in a nearby parking lot. They tried to talk to him, but he wasn’t cooperating at all. They eventually asked him to get out of the truck, but he grabbed a tire iron that he had beside him and jumped into the back seat instead. After one of the officers used their JPX pepper gun, Hawkins threw the tire iron at them, striking Officer Wilburn. They were then able to get the back doors of the truck open and continued to order Hawkins to get out. Once he stepped out, he tried to reach back into the truck for something and they grabbed hold of his arms to try to stop him. He immediately started to fight with them. After they were on the ground, Hawkins managed to grab Officer Freeman by the hair and slammed her face into the concrete. He continued to hold and pull her hair while they attempted to restrain him. A few moments later, Officer Dacota Taylor arrived on scene and helped them get Hawkins into handcuffs.
Both officers were transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital by LifeNet Ambulance where they were treated for their injuries. While their injuries were serious, we are thankful that they will make a full recovery.
Hawkins was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Resisting Arrest. He was transported to the Bi-State Jail, where his bond was set at a total of $405,000.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
