The Texarkana community was met with a mix of surprise and sadness as The Sportsplex announced its imminent closure, with doors set to shut on Friday, February 23rd. In a statement released by the management, they expressed both gratitude for the years of support and optimism for the future of the campus under new ownership.

According to staff, there are no plans for any gym to reopen at this location. Members who have prepaid memberships are assured that their accounts are under review for prorated reimbursements.

“It is with a mix of emotions that we inform you that the gym will be closing its doors,” stated The Sportsplex management. “After careful consideration and negotiations, the sale of the Sportsplex campus is nearing its final stages.”

While the closure marks the end of an era for The Sportsplex, it also presents an opportunity for growth and development within the Texarkana community. The management expressed excitement for the new owners set to take over the space, envisioning a thriving business that will positively impact the area.

Twin City CrossFit, a tenant within The Sportsplex, will remain operational for the next month at its current location. They have assured their commitment to their program and community and encouraged members to stay updated on their latest news through social media channels.

However, amidst the transition, The Sportsplex has faced challenges, including recent incidents of vandalism and theft. In response, the gym will only be open during staffed hours for the remainder of the week. Staffed hours will be from 5 am to 9 pm through Thursday, February 22nd, and from 5 am to 5 pm on Friday, February 23rd.

Members are advised to retrieve personal belongings from the Sportsplex campus, including items stored in lockers, before the closure.

As the Texarkana community prepares to bid farewell to The Sportsplex, the management assured members that they are available to address any concerns or questions regarding memberships during the transition period.

In a heartfelt message to the gym’s patrons, The Sportsplex team expressed their deepest gratitude for the support and dedication shown over the years. They emphasized the honor of serving the Texarkana community and the positive impact achieved together.

As the final week at The Plex approaches, members and staff alike reflect on the memories and relationships formed within the gym’s walls, anticipating the new chapter that lies ahead for the beloved Texarkana establishment.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
