In the early hours of Sunday morning, law enforcement received a concerning call regarding an alarm at Moderne Primitives, a business located in the 900 block of New Boston Road. What unfolded next was a swift response by Officer Matthew Lindsey, leading to the apprehension of a suspect and the discovery of extensive damage within the premises.
Upon arrival at the scene, Officer Lindsey observed a shattered front window and the sound of glass breaking emanating from inside the building. Acting swiftly, he proceeded to the rear of the establishment where he encountered Colton Lewellen attempting to flee the scene.
“Lewellen was exiting the premises through the rear when Officer Lindsey intercepted him,” stated TTPD. “Upon searching him, it was discovered that Lewellen was in possession of numerous items later identified as belonging to Moderne Primitives.”
Further investigation revealed the extent of the damage caused by Lewellen during his unlawful entry into the business. Shelves were destroyed, and glass items were strewn haphazardly throughout the store, resulting in an estimated $7,500 worth of damages.
“Lewellen’s actions resulted in significant destruction and disruption to the business,” added TTPD. “His reckless behavior left behind a considerable mess that the owners will now have to contend with.”
Subsequently, Colton Lewellen, 27, was taken into custody and booked into the Bi-State Jail. He faces charges of Burglary of a Building and Criminal Mischief, reflecting the severity of his actions. His bond has been set at $45,000.
“This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community cooperation in maintaining public safety,” emphasized [Law Enforcement Spokesperson]. “We are grateful for Officer Lindsey’s prompt response, which ultimately led to the swift apprehension of the suspect.”
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. Meanwhile, the owners of Moderne Primitives are left to assess the damage and work towards restoring their business to its former state, underscoring the impact of criminal behavior on local enterprises and communities.
