In a move set to ignite excitement across Texarkana, baseball is making a triumphant return this summer with the inauguration of the Mid America League and the introduction of the “Texarkana Rhinos.”
George Dobson Field at Spring Lake Park will once again echo with the crack of bats and the roar of the crowd as the Texarkana Rhinos take to the diamond. The announcement comes as part of the launch of the Mid-America League, a premium baseball development league orchestrated by National Sports Services, a renowned sports marketing firm.
Scheduled to commence in late May, the Mid-America League will feature six teams spanning the geographic expanse of Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas. Joining Texarkana in this inaugural season are Abilene, Sherman, and White Oak in Texas, along with Fort Smith, Arkansas. An additional franchise is set to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Matt Perry, President of the Mid-America League, expressed enthusiasm for Texarkana’s inclusion, citing the city’s robust market and the quality infrastructure of George Dobson Field. “Texarkana offers a solid market and great geographic fit with 150,000 people in the metro area and a quality facility in George Dobson Field. We are excited to return a summer baseball franchise to the market,” Perry stated.
The Texarkana team will not only electrify the local baseball scene but also foster economic opportunities for players through a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program. Designed to empower athletes, this initiative allows players to earn income for approved services while showcasing their talent on the field.

Mayor Bob Bruggeman extended a warm welcome to the Mid-America League, emphasizing the community’s eagerness to embrace the new team. “Whether you’re a lifelong baseball enthusiast like me or a first-time spectator, I encourage you to embrace the new team and let the Mid-America League season in Texarkana be a home run for everyone involved!” Mayor Bruggeman exclaimed.
With renovations underway at George Dobson Field and investments planned for seating, ticketing, and concessions, the stage is set for an unforgettable season of baseball in Texarkana. Local investors are poised to join the ownership group, ensuring deep community ties and fostering a vibrant baseball culture.
