Early this morning, Texarkana Police Department (TTPD) responded to a distressing situation at Wadley Hospital involving a 2-year-old child with a gunshot wound to the leg. According to authorities, the child’s mother reported that her 8-year-old sibling accidentally discharged a firearm found at their home in Texarkana, Arkansas.
At approximately 8:11 a.m., officers arrived at the hospital where they learned that the injured child had been transported by the mother and her live-in boyfriend, Breydan Ybarra. Ybarra also took the 8-year-old sibling and a 5-year-old child to their grandmother’s home in Nash, Texas. Police were able to contact the children and their grandmother, confirming their safety.
The 2-year-old was later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, where their condition is reported as stable. Officers conducted a brief check of the residence to ensure no additional victims were present. A subsequent warrant check revealed that Ybarra is a convicted felon, leading to his arrest for Possession of a Firearm by a Certain Person and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were called to the residence, where a search warrant was executed for the home and Ybarra’s vehicle. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the details of the incident.
