A horrifying act of violence unfolded in the early morning hours of March 29 in Cass County, leaving a young girl dead and her grandmother injured.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, an emergency 911 call was received at 6:31 a.m. from a residence off FM 74 in Bloomburg. Jacki Kubin, who had sustained injuries, managed to escape and ran to a neighbor for help. The neighbor contacted authorities and provided a description of a fleeing vehicle.
Officers with the Atlanta Police Department responded quickly, arriving to find a severely injured female child at the scene. The child, later identified as 9-year-old Abigail French, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Meanwhile, authorities located the suspect’s abandoned vehicle near FM 74. Cass County Emergency Services District #3 deployed a drone to aid in the search and successfully located the suspect, identified as Allison French. She was detained and transported to the hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.
French, the mother of Abigail, has since been arrested on a Capital Murder Warrant.
Jacki Kubin, the child’s grandmother, suffered defensive wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment.
“We would like to thank the Texas Parks & Wildlife Officers, the Atlanta Police Department, and ESD 3 for their assistance in quickly bringing the apprehension of Allison French,” Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe stated. “Our prayers are with the family.”
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with no additional details available at this time.
