A quick-thinking citizen and swift action by Texarkana police officers led to the arrest of a man caught attempting to burglarize vehicles in a hotel parking lot early Monday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., Texarkana Texas Police Department received a call from a concerned individual who spotted a man pulling on car door handles in the parking lot of a hotel off Cowhorn Creek Road.
Lt. Jeremy Courtney responded to the scene and located the suspect—25-year-old Maleek Collier—hiding beneath a truck. As Lt. Courtney approached, Collier rolled out from the opposite side and took off on foot.
Fortunately, several officers were already in the area and were able to quickly catch up with and detain Collier. Near the location where Collier had been initially spotted, officers found an iPad lying on the ground. It was later confirmed to belong to a hotel guest who had left it in their vehicle.
Collier was taken into custody and booked into the Bi-State Jail. He faces multiple charges, including:
-
Burglary of a Vehicle
-
Assault on a Peace Officer
-
Evading Arrest
-
Possession of Marijuana

Police thanked the citizen who made the initial call and praised the officers involved for their quick response and teamwork, which not only led to the arrest but also the return of stolen property to its rightful owner.
