Drivers who regularly use the Richmond Road exit on Interstate 30 westbound should prepare for significant changes beginning next week.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced that Westbound Exit 220B/Richmond Road will be closed starting Monday, January 5, 2026, at approximately 9 a.m. The closure is part of the ongoing I-30 widening project and is expected to last several months while crews work to build new pavement tying the exit ramp into the widened main lanes.
TxDOT officials say the timeline is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
During the closure, drivers are advised to use Exit 222/Summerhill Road and travel along the continuous frontage road system to reach key destinations, including area hospitals, Richmond Road, and businesses located between Summerhill Road and University Avenue. Electronic message boards are already in place to alert motorists to the upcoming closure.
TxDOT also reminded commuters that the I-30 frontage road system allows uninterrupted travel eastbound from FM 989/Kings Highway to U.S. Highway 71/State Line Avenue and westbound from U.S. Highway 71/State Line Avenue to FM 989/Kings Highway, without stopping at traffic signals.
