Youth across the region are invited to take part in a fun and free basketball event Sunday at We Are Washington, located at 1900 Marietta Street in Texarkana, Arkansas.
The Elks Hoop Shoot, a national youth basketball shooting competition, will take place beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18. The event is open to boys and girls ages 8–13 and focuses on sportsmanship, confidence, and fun. Participants will compete within their age division by shooting 10 free throws, with top shooters earning awards and the opportunity to advance to district, state, regional, and potentially national competition. The contest is free to enter, and families and friends are encouraged to attend and cheer on their young athletes.
The Hoop Shoot is part of a long-running national youth initiative sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, one of the nation’s most visible youth athletic programs. The program gives boys and girls a chance to build confidence and life skills through friendly competition and, for those who advance beyond local contests, can lead all the way to the National Finals, where champions are honored at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
We Are Washington, the hosting organization, is a community-based outreach program dedicated to uniting and uplifting local residents through events and initiatives that support youth and community development. Founded under the mission of helping individuals and families in the Texarkana area, We Are Washington provides programming and events that enhance awareness, support, and involvement across the region.
Parents, guardians, and community members are encouraged to bring athletic shoes, comfortable clothing, and a great attitude. The Hoop Shoot promises to be an exciting afternoon of competition, encouragement, and community spirit.
