Kiwanis Club of Texarkana Announces Second Annual K.I.D.S. Camp for June 22–26

After a successful inaugural year, the Kiwanis Club of Texarkana is bringing back one of its most meaningful youth programs with the Second Annual K.I.D.S. Camp (Kids Improving Diabetes Safety), scheduled for June 22–26, 2026.

Hosted once again as a special opportunity for children living with diabetes, K.I.D.S. Camp was created to provide more than just a week of summer fun — it offers a safe, supportive environment where children can build friendships, gain confidence, and develop practical skills to better manage their health.

Originally envisioned more than three decades ago by local advocate Mary Jackson, the camp became a reality in 2025 through the dedication of the Kiwanis Club of Texarkana and community partners. Now entering its second year, organizers hope to build on that momentum and continue creating experiences that leave a lasting impact on local families.

Campers can look forward to a full week of activities designed to encourage growth, independence, and connection. Planned experiences include outdoor activities, swimming and games, creative projects, teamwork exercises, and opportunities to make new friends — all while learning in an environment tailored to support children with diabetes.

“This camp is about giving kids a place where they can simply be kids while also feeling supported and understood,” said Destiny Carter, Camp Coordinator and Kiwanis President-Elect. “We want every child who attends to leave with more confidence, new friendships, and memories that last long after camp ends.”

One of the defining features of K.I.D.S. Camp remains accessibility. Through community support, sponsorships, volunteers, and fundraising efforts, the program continues its mission of making participation available to families without unnecessary barriers.

Founded in 1915, the Kiwanis Club of Texarkana has long focused its service efforts on improving the lives of children across the region through leadership, outreach, and community partnerships. K.I.D.S. Camp represents another example of that commitment in action.

Registration is now open for this year’s camp.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
