Texarkana-area drone operators planning to capture aerial footage of this weekend’s Texarkana Airshow will need to keep their aircraft grounded during performance hours.
The Federal Aviation Administration has established a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over Texarkana Regional Airport during the airshow, creating a no-fly zone that covers a roughly five-nautical-mile radius around the airport. The restriction spans from the ground up to 15,500 feet, effectively covering most of the Texarkana metro area on both the Arkansas and Texas sides.
The TFR is active during key portions of the airshow weekend, including Friday’s practice window and Saturday’s main event. According to the FAA notice, the airspace will be restricted Friday, June 26, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again Saturday, June 27, from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
During those times, all drone operations are prohibited within the restricted airspace unless specifically authorized by airshow officials and coordinated through air traffic control. The restriction applies to both recreational drone pilots and certified commercial operators under FAA Part 107 rules.
Officials emphasize that standard drone authorizations, flight app approvals, or registrations do not override an active Temporary Flight Restriction.
The restriction is in place due to the nature of the event, which includes high-speed aircraft demonstrations, military flyovers, and parachute operations by the U.S. Army Golden Knights. Aviation officials note that an unauthorized drone in the airspace during performances could create a serious safety risk for both pilots and spectators on the ground.
Violations of FAA airspace restrictions can result in significant civil penalties, potential criminal charges, and enforcement action against pilot certificates. Federal and state authorities also maintain drone detection and enforcement capabilities during major aviation events.
Attendees who want aerial-style views are encouraged to capture photos from designated ground areas or arrive outside the restricted time windows to film static displays before the airspace closes.
The FAA restriction is outlined in NOTAM FDC 6/9593. Full details can be reviewed through the FAA’s official TFR system. FAA Temporary Flight Restriction Notice (FDC 6/9593)
For those attending the airshow, officials are reminding the public that once the performance window begins, all drones must remain grounded until the restriction is lifted.
