Books, beats, and a little prehistoric swagger are coming together this summer as the Texarkana Public Library hosts its Second Annual Book-Themed Rap Battle on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Part of the library’s dinosaur-themed Summer Reading Program, the event invites young performers to step up to the mic and show off their creativity with original rhymes inspired by books and reading.
Organizers say the competition is open to rappers ages 14 and under, and every participant will walk away with a prize. Attendees will also have a chance to win door prizes during the event.
Adding to the entertainment lineup will be special guest performer Mr. Sixteen, bringing extra energy and encouragement for the young artists taking the stage.
The event will be hosted by LaShonta Simpson, Circulation Supervisor at the Texarkana Public Library, and promises to be more than just a rap competition.
Guests can also enjoy food and activities provided by Shell Shocked Catering & Events, LLC, including catering, a selfie station, and a 360-degree video experience to capture the day’s memorable moments.
Library staff encourage families to come cheer on the performers, enjoy the atmosphere, and celebrate reading in what organizers are calling “dino-sized style.”
The Second Annual Book-Themed Rap Battle takes place at the Texarkana Public Library and is open to the community.
