One of Southwest Arkansas’ sweetest traditions is preparing for a milestone celebration as the 50th Annual Hope Watermelon Festival returns to Fair Park August 6-8, 2026
Dubbed the festival’s “Golden Jubilee,” this year’s event promises three days packed with family fun, hometown traditions, mouthwatering food, and live entertainment, culminating with a Saturday night concert featuring Grammy Award-winning country artist Gretchen Wilson. Arkansas native and rising country star Mae Estes will open the show.
Hosted by the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce and Experience Hope AR, the festival has grown from a local celebration of the area’s famous watermelons into one of Arkansas’ largest summer festivals, attracting an estimated 40,000 visitors each year.
The Hope Watermelon Festival has long been known for showcasing the giant melons that made Hope famous. Over the decades, local growers have produced several world-record watermelons, helping establish Hope as one of the premier watermelon-producing communities in the country.
Festival-goers can expect many of the traditions that have become annual favorites, including:
- Hundreds of arts and crafts vendors
- Food booths featuring everything from festival favorites to sweet watermelon treats
- The famous Watermelon Olympics
- Watermelon eating and seed-spitting contests
- Classic car displays
- Children’s activities and Kid Zone attractions
- Live music throughout the weekend
- The annual Watermelon Festival Parade
- The Hope Watermelon 5K and Melon Mile
- Plenty of free slices of Hope’s world-famous ice-cold watermelon.
The celebration officially kicks off Thursday, August 6, with festival grounds opening at noon. Activities continue Friday before Saturday’s full slate of events, ending with Gretchen Wilson taking the stage Saturday evening as the grand finale of the festival’s 50th anniversary celebration. Concert gates open at 6 p.m., with music beginning at 7 p.m.
Festival organizers say this year’s Golden Jubilee is designed to honor five decades of memories while welcoming a new generation of visitors to one of Arkansas’ signature summer events.
Located just 30 miles from Texarkana, the Hope Watermelon Festival has long been a favorite weekend destination for residents throughout the Four States Area, making it an easy day trip for families looking to enjoy live entertainment, carnival-style fun, shopping, and some of the sweetest watermelon anywhere.
The 50th Annual Hope Watermelon Festival runs Thursday, August 6, through Saturday, August 8, at Fair Park in Hope, Arkansas. Admission to the festival grounds is free, although tickets are required for the Saturday night concert featuring Gretchen Wilson.
