Texarkana Independent School District has officially begun its search for the district’s next Superintendent of Schools.
During its regular meeting on August 25, the TISD Board of Trustees selected Arrow Educational Services, Inc. to lead the superintendent search.
The Texas-based firm specializes in superintendent searches and support for school boards and educators and has assisted with more than 225 superintendent searches across the state. Jim Dunlap will lead the TISD search on behalf of Arrow Educational Services.
The search comes as the district continues through a leadership transition, with Sherri Penix currently serving as Interim Superintendent.
TISD Board President Amy Bowers said the district is looking to build on recent progress and momentum.
“This is an exciting and important time for Texarkana ISD,” Bowers said. “Our district has tremendous momentum, an outstanding staff, strong community support, and more opportunities than ever before for our students.”
District officials pointed to continued improvements in academic performance and accountability ratings, expanded Career and Technical Education programs, increased access to early learning, new and renovated facilities, and continued growth in college and career pathways.
The Board says selecting the next superintendent is one of its most important responsibilities and plans to conduct what it describes as a thoughtful and comprehensive search.
Community and staff input will also be part of the process. The district says additional information will be announced regarding opportunities for employees, families, students and community members to share their thoughts about the qualities and priorities they want to see in the next superintendent.
“We want our community to be part of this process,” Bowers said. “We value their perspectives and want their voices to help inform the qualities we seek in the leader who will guide TISD into its next chapter.”
According to the district, the Board will be looking for a leader who puts student success at the center of decision-making, supports employees, demonstrates strong academic and operational leadership, communicates openly and transparently, and builds meaningful relationships with families and the community.
The next superintendent will also be expected to continue expanding opportunities that prepare students for college, careers and life.
In the meantime, Penix will continue providing leadership and stability as TISD begins the 2026–2027 school year.
District officials say the superintendent transition will not change the district’s focus on increasing student achievement, supporting employees, expanding opportunities and strengthening community partnerships.
Additional information about the search timeline, opportunities for community input and the application process will be released as it becomes available. Interested candidates can apply through Arrow Educational Services’ active superintendent search process.
