After decades of going thru downtown Texarkana there are some big changes in store for the 72nd Four States Fair & Rodeo Parade for 2016. Instead of the traditional downtown route, the parade is moving to the Four States Fairgrounds.
Details are still being worked out for the final route, but we know that the parade will still take place on Saturday September 10 and will go from the Fairgrounds parking lot, up 50th Street next to Bobby Ferguson Park then turn left into the Fairgrounds at the West Gate. The route inside the Fairgrounds will be determined based on the number of parade entries.
We reached out to our friend Lisa Barr at the Fairgrounds for comment,
The plan is to stage the parade in the front parking lot. We are waiting for entries to close on September 2nd to see what we have in the line up for the route to be confirmed. However, we do know that the gates for the grounds will open at 8AM, FREE of CHARGE this means no parking fee and no admission fee. Vendors will be open for folks to come in and have breakfast or an early does of fair food! We will also have exhibit buildings and restrooms open! The livestock shows start Friday and Saturday morning at 9am so folks can walk over to the barn and check those out. The parade route will go up 50th street between Bobby Ferguson Park and the Fairgrounds. We want to make certain that everyone plans to arrive early because once the parade begins we will be closing off access to the area. We realize this is a big change, but we are excited to have everyone with the parade on the grounds. We will also open the carnival rides directly following the parade! They will not have to leave they will be able to walk right on out and enjoy their day at the fair!
