The holiday tradition returns. On Thursday, November 27, the 12th Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K and Kid’s Fun Dash will be held at Spring Lake Park — starting at 8:30 a.m. and wrapping up around 10:00 a.m.
The event supports the Community Healthcore Foundation, the charitable branch of Community Healthcore. Donations and registration help fund critical programs serving East Texans: Community Healthcore provides mental health, substance use, intellectual and developmental disability, crisis, and veteran services throughout the region.
Founded in 2001, the Foundation raises money for grants that support these programs — past grants have helped launch projects like a women veterans’ retreat and a soap-making business for day-habilitation clients.
Runners of all ages can participate: adults in the 5K, kids in a lighter Fun Dash. Every participant gets a swag bag, a participation medal, and a shirt — and for families, the early-morning run is a healthy, festive way to start Thanksgiving.
