The Texarkana Museums System will celebrate Black History month with a free screening of Marvin Williams’ documentary “The Jamison: History of an African-American Landmark”, Saturday February 27.

A pre-screening reception is planned at the P.J. Ahern House located at 403 Laurel Street in Texarkana, Arkansas Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., show time is from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m..

The event is free but there is limited seating, so RSVP today at 903.793.4831.

The building was designated a historical landmark in 1983. From the Texas Historical Commission plaque on the structure:

Mississippi-born Dr. Garling Uriah Jamison Sr. (1881-1951) opened this structure in 1930 as Texarkana’s first black business and professional building. Designed by the Texarkana Architectural firm of Witt, Seibert, and Halsey it features an interesting and decorative use of brick. The Jamison Building became a center of economic, cultural, and social life in the city’s black community and has remained an important local landmark.
