Police are searching for a suspect involved in a Saturday night shooting at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Richmond Road.
Officers responded to the scene just after 8:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire. According to authorities, a dispute between neighbors escalated when one man pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the ground. The bullet ricocheted, striking two people. The suspect and another man then allegedly assaulted one of the victims before fleeing the scene.
Police quickly located and arrested 26-year-old Morgan Lanham inside an apartment at the complex. He has been charged with Assault. However, the alleged shooter, 27-year-old Dantray Copeland, remains at large.
Investigators believe Copeland left the area with assistance. Detectives are in the process of securing warrants for his arrest on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital by LifeNet with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on Copeland’s whereabouts to contact the Texarkana Police Department at (903) 798-3876 or Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers at (903) 793-STOP. Tips can remain anonymous.
