TTPD have identified the driver of the stolen car that killed two in a fiery crash on Lake Drive in Texarkana. Police identified the driver as Billy Morehead, 36, of Texarkana Texas. The female passenger also killed in the crash has yet to be identified.

    Press Release:

The Texarkana Texas Police Department has identified Billy Morehead, 36, of Texarkana Texas as the driver of a stolen vehicle involved in a single vehicle crash on South Lake Drive last night.  Morehead and an unidentified female passenger died in the crash.

At approximately 9:10 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a major vehicle accident on South Lake Drive at the Waggoner Creek Bridge, which is located just south of Caddo Street.  When officers arrived, they discovered a 1992 Buick LaSabre fully engulfed in flames.

The vehicle was stolen minutes before from the Rock House Liquor Store (400 block of North Stateline) in Texarkana, Arkansas.  According to witnesses of the crash, the vehicle was travelling south on Lake Drive at a very high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate the curve.  Investigators believe the vehicle to have been travelling 90-100 miles per hour at the time of the crash.  After leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck the concrete bridge abutment and went airborne for approximately thirty feet before striking a tree.  It then came to rest on its side in the creek bed of Waggoner Creek and immediately burst into flames.  It is believed that both occupants were likely killed on impact.

The bodies were transported to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas for autopsies.  Investigators continue to examine the crash and work to identify the female passenger.

South Lake Drive was closed overnight between Caddo Street and Buchanan Road for both north and southbound traffic for about five hours while investigators and crime scene technicians were on scene.
