Over ninety students from both Texarkana and Hope U.A.H.T. campuses were recently honored with and EDGE scholar pinning ceremony to award students who are highly successful in the College Life Skills course.

The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana pinned a total of ninety “EDGE Scholars” from both campuses on December 5th and 6th. Every semester the college holds an EDGE scholar pinning ceremony to award students who are highly successful in the College Life Skills course. College Life Skills (EDGE) is a course that prepares students for the expectations and rigor of college and the workforce. The scholars are encouraged to wear their EDGE pin when they walk at their college graduation.
According to EDGE Instructor Staci Shupe, “The College Life Skills faculty believe that if a student can pass this class with an A or B, they have a greater likelihood of success in their future classes and endeavors.” A study by the Association of American Colleges and Universities shows that first-year college seminar participants are five to fifteen percentage points more likely to graduate within four years than nonparticipants. Shupe continued, “It is the hope of the UAHT faculty that all of our students will become EDGE Scholars.”
