A 38-year-old man is behind bars after an armed robbery at a local convenience store Saturday night turned into a brief foot chase — ending with a run-in he didn’t see coming.
According to the Texarkana Texas Police Department, Larodderick Clay walked into the Fuel N Go on North Robison Road around 9:00 p.m., asked for a pack of cigarettes, then pulled a gun on the clerk and demanded cash. After grabbing money from the register, Clay helped himself to alcohol, cigarettes, and a variety of snacks — including gummy bears and Flamin’ Hot Fries — before fleeing the store on foot.
A witness arrived at the scene moments later, saw Clay running from the store, and quickly called 911.
Officers responded to the area, and within minutes, Lt. Jeremy Courtney spotted Clay walking behind Planet Fitness. Clay attempted to run again, but unknowingly headed straight toward Sgt. Marc Neal — and a tall fence that brought his escape attempt to an abrupt end.
Police arrested Clay at the scene and recovered the stolen cash, items from the store, and the firearm, which officers later discovered had been reported stolen out of Atlanta, Texas.
Clay was transported to the Bi-State Jail, where he was booked on charges of Robbery, Theft of a Firearm, and Evading Arrest. His total bond was set at $110,000.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
