Bowie County Sheriff Jeff Neal has released an official statement regarding a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday evening at the Family Dollar Store in Maud.
At approximately 7:52 p.m. on March 8, 2025, the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at the store. The caller informed authorities that one of the store clerks had been shot.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find 47-year-old Denyle K. Pierce, a resident of Maud, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Surveillance footage from the store captured the incident, providing law enforcement with a clear description of the suspect’s unique clothing and the firearm used in the crime.
Investigators quickly obtained a description of the suspect’s getaway vehicle and were able to locate it at a residence in Maud. After making contact with the resident of the home, deputies received consent to search the property. During the search, they recovered clothing and a firearm matching those seen in the surveillance footage.

Subsequently, deputies arrested 27-year-old Keyshawn Deiron Wickware of Maud, TX. Wickware has been booked into the Bowie County Jail on a charge of Capital Murder. As of now, no bond has been set.
Sheriff Neal commended his deputies for their swift response and investigation, which led to the quick apprehension of the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
