A 24-year-old Simms man, Stuart Duncan Hammonds, has been arrested and charged with 12 counts of animal cruelty in a grisly case involving the deaths of multiple dogs. The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation on October 3 after receiving reports of several missing dogs in the Simms area.
When deputies visited Hammonds’ home, they were met with the unmistakable odor of decaying animals. Their investigation led to the discovery of 12 dog carcasses, some with clear signs of head trauma, indicating they had been shot. Authorities believe Hammonds picked up stray dogs from the area and possibly adopted others through social media.
It was further revealed that Hammonds reportedly killed four of the dogs in moments of rage during arguments with his girlfriend. A witness confirmed that Hammonds was responsible for all 12 deaths.
Hammonds is now in custody, with his bond set at $100,000, facing multiple charges of cruelty to non-livestock animals.
