The Fourth of July weekend is that magical time of year when grills get fired up, fireworks light up the sky, like all night around here and I have a neighbor that always goes outside in shoots off one round from an ole boy scout single shot 22 she’s had since she was a girl, and she’s like a hundred. It’s a time for cold drinks, backyard cornhole championships, and chasing kids around with sparklers while hollerin’ “don’t point that at your brother!” But in between the laughs, the burgers, and the folks who think they’re professional pyrotechnicians, it’s also a chance to remember what we’re celebrating — the hard-fought freedom we enjoy and the folks who made it possible. So raise a toast, wave a flag, and thank a veteran if you see one. No matter what brand they may try to bunch folks under these days, each and every one of us have the individual liberty to let them do it or not. Happy Fourth of July!
