An evening at the Four States Fair turned chaotic on Saturday, April 6, as officers and security personnel found themselves responding to a large altercation in the fairground’s parking lot.
As fairgoers were exiting the premises, a disturbance erupted, resulting in a scuffle that drew the attention of law enforcement. Swift action from officers led to the apprehension of seven juveniles involved in the initial altercation. However, the situation escalated when a 17-year-old Black male, believed to have been part of the initial disturbance, discharged a firearm.
In response, officers swiftly pursued the suspect as he fled the scene. The pursuit culminated in the apprehension of the individual in a nearby city park, with law enforcement successfully recovering the firearm.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident. The Miller County Sheriff’s Office and the Texarkana, Texas Police Department responded promptly to assist in managing the situation, their efforts praised by authorities.
The Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department’s Criminal Investigation unit has been called upon to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
In light of this incident, the Texarkana Police Department underscores the importance of parental supervision at the Four States Fair. They emphasize strict enforcement of rules regarding the presence of juvenile children at the fairgrounds, with minors found unaccompanied by a legal guardian or parent swiftly removed from the premises.
As investigations continue, authorities urge cooperation from the community and remind individuals to prioritize safety and responsibility in all public gatherings.
