A local man was killed earlier today in an accident at Thunder Road Raceway in Gilliam, LA. when he was struck by a car that he was directing on to the racetrack.
60-year-old Steven Smith of Atlanta Texas was struck by a car being driven by a team member as he was directing the racer on to the track. He was flown to University Health Hospital in Shreveport by LifeAir Rescue but did not survive his injuries.
It was an obvious accident, but because it involved a motorized vehicle the incident is under investigation by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Smith was loved by many and highly respected in the community.
