The driver of the passenger vehicle was finally extricated from the wreckage after crews worked for more than 2 hours and was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the 18-wheeler did not suffer any major injuries. Lanes in both directions on Highway 59 were closed for hours while the Liberty Eylau Fire Department worked the scene with assistance from area law enforcement and other local volunteer fire departments including Cass County Fire District 2, Redwater Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wake Village Fire Department.
