Texarkana families can once again enjoy a summer tradition under the stars as the Texarkana Texas Parks & Recreation Department kicks off its annual “Movies in the Park” series at Spring Lake Park beginning Thursday, May 28.

The free outdoor movie series will take place across from the airplane at Spring Lake Park on three Thursday nights this summer. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and bug spray for a comfortable evening on the lawn. Concessions will also be available for purchase, although attendees are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks.

The summer lineup begins Thursday, May 28, with the 1995 adventure classic Jumanji starring Robin Williams. The film follows siblings Peter and Judy Shepherd as they discover a mysterious jungle-themed board game that unleashes wild animals, giant insects, and long-lost adventurer Alan Parrish into the real world.

On Thursday, June 4, families can enjoy the fan-favorite sports comedy Space Jam featuring NBA legend Michael Jordan alongside the Looney Tunes crew. In the film, Bugs Bunny and the Tunes challenge alien invaders to a high-stakes basketball game to save themselves from becoming amusement park attractions.

The series wraps up Thursday, June 11, with A Minecraft Movie starring Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Jennifer Coolidge. The adventure comedy follows four unlikely heroes pulled into the imaginative block-built world of Minecraft as they attempt to find their way home.

All movies will begin at dusk, and organizers recommend arriving early to secure the best viewing spots.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
