Earlier this evening, law enforcement responded to a distress call on the 700 block of Wilson Street regarding a woman who was attacked by dogs. The situation quickly escalated when Officer Chris Flores arrived at the scene and was confronted by two large pit bull mix dogs.
As Texarkana Texas Police Officer Jose Flores approached the residence, the aggressive dogs charged towards him. Despite his efforts to fend them off with a flashlight, the animals overwhelmed him, knocking him to the ground and viciously mauling him.
Fortunately, Officer Matthew Lindsey arrived shortly thereafter and faced a dilemma; he was reluctant to fire his weapon due to the risk of hitting his colleague, Officer Flores. Instead, Lindsey managed to halt the attack by utilizing a fire extinguisher to deter the dogs.
Recognizing the severity of Officer Flores’ injuries, Officer Jose Chavez acted swiftly, transporting his wounded comrade to the hospital without hesitation.
The ordeal didn’t end there, as officers later had to resort to lethal force when one of the dogs charged at the Animal Control Officer during their attempt to secure them. Although the shot didn’t immediately kill the animal, it disabled it enough for authorities to safely capture it. The second dog was detained without further incident.
Officer Flores sustained significant injuries to both arms, including muscle damage and numerous lacerations. Currently undergoing surgery, his condition remains critical.
In light of this harrowing incident, the community is urged to keep Officer Flores in their thoughts and prayers, hoping for his swift and complete recovery.
