For Jerra and Kenneth Parris, the journey to becoming custodians of this cherished Texarkana landmark began on January 1st, 2021. Remarkably, this date marked exactly thirty years since the previous owners had acquired the restaurant. Despite their lack of prior restaurant experience, the couple embarked on this adventure to be closer to family in the area. Kenneth assumed a managerial role before the changing of hands, ensuring a seamless transition.
Crucially, the Parris couple opted to maintain the restaurant’s essence, keeping the staff, menu, recipes, and the beloved cultural ambiance intact.
“[The restaurant] has got a rich history in the community. It’s a community cornerstone, literally,” Kenneth explains. “It’s really neat that we’re able to keep this going.”
Old Tyme Burger Shoppe is a quintessential embodiment of community nostalgia, featuring handwritten tickets, a vintage cash register, and local advertising adorning the tabletops.
