A one-of-a-kind fundraising event is set to take over downtown Texarkana this weekend, giving participants the chance to step outside their comfort zone — and over the edge — all for a cause that directly impacts local children.
The “Over the Edge” rappel event will take place Saturday, April 18, benefiting CASA and the Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center.
Participants will have the opportunity to rappel down the side of the Regions Bank Building, one of the tallest structures in downtown Texarkana, transforming the city skyline into a platform for purpose.
The event is designed to be accessible to a wide range of participants. Organizers say no prior rappelling experience is necessary, and the event is open to individuals of all abilities, including those with disabilities. There is no age limit to participate, though participants must meet a weight requirement between 100 and 300 pounds.
To earn a spot on the ropes, participants are required to raise a minimum of $1,000, with all proceeds going directly toward services that support children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
“This event is about more than just the thrill,” organizers say. “It’s about standing up for children in our community and making sure they have advocates, resources, and hope during some of the most difficult times in their lives.”
In addition to rappellers, organizers are also seeking volunteers to assist with the event. Opportunities include rope team support and general event help, providing a way for community members to get involved without going over the side of the building.
Funds raised from the event will support the missions of CASA and the Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center, both of which work closely with children in foster care and those involved in child abuse investigations. These organizations provide critical advocacy, support services, and a voice for children navigating complex and often traumatic situations.
Community members are encouraged to come downtown on Saturday to cheer on participants, volunteer, or simply learn more about the organizations and their impact.
For those willing to take the leap, organizers say the experience is unforgettable — offering not only an adrenaline rush, but the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s life.
