Post Office Square Construction Causing Traffic Issues Downtown

    0
By Jeff Easterling on April 28, 2021 City News, Traffic

Construction with the Courthouse Square connections project has traffic around the historic downtown Post Office messed up. Below is a map of the planned traffic detours for at least the next few weeks. Parking close to the building will still be next to impossible.

Having our post office box inside the historic downtown post office is something that I personally enjoy. Takes me back to my youth. Walking in, checking the mail, maybe get some stamps because I still send letters. Parking has always been difficult, but now… yikes.

However, the improvements being made to the area are really nice. Considering that our Federal Courthouse and post office that sits in two states is the second most photographed federal building in the United States. So, with some patience, we are excited to see the finished product.

(By the way, with all of the construction going on, the only way to get to BJ’s Diner is to get out and walk. It is worth it, they are open for breakfast and lunch.)

    Press Release:

The Courthouse Square Connections Project will begin roadwork on the street around the Courthouse this Wednesday, April 28th, weather permitting. This work will shut down large portions of the roadway around the courthouse.

This construction is expected to last several weeks. During this time, detours and traffic control will be made available to drivers in the vicinity.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
