The Red Shield Youth Center of Texarkana is hosting the Hope Rush “FUN”Raiser Duck Derby on Saturday, August 30 at Big Dam Waterpark. The event invites the community to adopt rubber ducks for a chance to win prizes while supporting local kids.

    Duck adoption packages include:

    • $5 – Single Duck

    • $20 – Quack Pack (5 ducks)

    • $50 – Dozen Quackers (12 ducks)

    • $100 – Flock (24 ducks)

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest ducks:

    • 1st Place – $300

    • 2nd Place – $150

    • 3rd Place – $50

For those looking to get creative, the Decorate-a-Duck Challenge is also underway. A $100 donation gets participants a giant XL duck to design however they choose. Businesses, friends, and organizations are encouraged to call each other out on Facebook to join the challenge. Decorated ducks must be returned by August 29 and will be judged by a panel of local celebrities.

All proceeds from the Duck Derby stay in Texarkana to support Red Shield Youth Center programs, which provide children with homework help, life skills, and hot meals after school.

For more information or to adopt your ducks, contact Chasity Russell at 903-319-4752 or email chasity.russell@uss.salvationarmy.org. A QR code to register is also available on the event’s Facebook page under the discussions tab.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
