The Silvermoon Theatre in downtown Texarkana has officially opened registration for its Fall Children’s Program, which runs from September 9 to November 11. The program is open to kids from kindergarten through 12th grade and offers a wide range of classes aimed at nurturing creativity, building confidence, and instilling a love for the stage.
Classes are scheduled for 10 consecutive Mondays, providing opportunities for children of all ages and experience levels to explore the world of theatre. The program is designed to accommodate everyone, from first-time performers to more seasoned young actors.
For the youngest participants, ages 5 and 6, the STARter classes focus on teaching basic theatre skills through imaginative play. Children will learn to follow directions, work as a team, and develop basic choreography and singing skills—all while having fun and building stage presence.
Students aged 7-11 can look forward to a mix of group singing, acting, and an exciting new puppetry class led by Marjorie Matthews, known for her work on the Audrey 2 puppets in “Little Shop of Horrors.” This age group will dive deeper into performance while still enjoying an approachable and fun learning environment.
Teens aged 12-18 can take advantage of a more comprehensive theatre education. The program includes classes in group singing, storytelling and scriptwriting, and a Hodge Podge course that covers various technical aspects of theatre, such as costume design, makeup, and beginner lighting and sound. This offers a unique chance for students to explore both on-stage performance and behind-the-scenes production.
The Silvermoon Children’s Theatre aims to provide a supportive space where kids can discover their talents, grow creatively, and enjoy the magic of theatre.
