The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department is investigating a shooting incident at a local apartment complex on E. 35th Street Wednesday evening.

On April 24, 2024, Texarkana Arkansas Police officers responded to a report of shots being fired in Parkside Apartments, 1400 E. 35th St., at approximately 6:48 p.m. TAPD officers arrived at the scene and located an apartment with the door open and observed blood inside on the living room floor in plain view. TAPD Criminal Investigation Division detectives arrived on the scene and were unable to locate a victim. Sometime later, detectives were advised the victim, a 24-year-old black male, had left the apartment to an unknown location in Mt. Pleasant, TX. The victim was treated for injuries to his hand at a medical facility in Mt. Pleasant. It was later determined by detectives that the victim was mishandling his firearm when he shot himself. CID’s investigation is ongoing.
