As the new school year approaches, parents in the Ark-La-Tex region have reason to celebrate with tax-free shopping opportunities on the horizon. Families can take advantage of several tax-free weekends to ease the back-to-school burden.

In Texas, shoppers can enjoy tax-free shopping from August 9 to 11. This three-day period offers relief for families preparing for the school year by allowing them to purchase certain items without the added cost of sales tax. More information on school supplies included HERE. More information on clothing items HERE.

Arkansas kicks off its tax-free weekend at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024. This event covers a range of items, including electronics, school supplies, art supplies, instructional materials, and clothing, making it a perfect opportunity for parents to stock up on essentials. More information for Arkasnsas HERE.

In contrast, Louisiana will not offer a tax-free break this year. With state finances stretched thin, the Pelican State is focusing on other priorities.

Oklahoma joins the list of tax-free states with its own event from August 2 to 4. In Oklahoma, while you won’t get a cut on school supplies, the sales tax will be waived on clothing and footwear priced under $100, providing another avenue for cost savings.

As the back-to-school preparations remain high across the region. Parents and students alike can look forward to the upcoming school year with a bit of extra relief thanks to these tax-free shopping weekends.

Our kids may be done with school, but we are already excited to see those “first day” photos.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
