TexAmericas Center is putting more horsepower behind its rail operations with the addition of two new locomotives, part of a $3.15 million investment aimed at expanding logistics capabilities and meeting rising tenant demand.
Ranked the fifth-best industrial park in the nation, TexAmericas Center is one of only a handful of Union Pacific Focus Sites, making it a prime location for industries that depend on heavy commodities and long-distance shipping. The new locomotives will allow the center to provide in-house rail movement, enhance transload services, reduce delivery times, and strengthen connections to broader markets.
“This investment gives us the horsepower to meet our tenants’ needs today and scale for what’s next,” said Scott Norton, CEO and Executive Director of TexAmericas Center. “We’re eliminating barriers and enabling businesses to adjust and expand their logistics strategies right here on our footprint — all while supporting safer, more efficient operations.”
The project was funded in part by a $1.5 million Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG) from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. The upgrades come after TexAmericas Center acquired a railcar storage business in 2021, inheriting aging equipment while demand for rail services surged.
Norton said the grant allowed the center to act quickly. “Their partnership not only helped us move quickly but also allows us to enhance regional logistics capabilities, including those supporting the Red River Army Depot. We’re deeply grateful for their continued commitment to economic development in defense communities like ours.”
The new locomotives are part of a broader rail expansion plan that includes new track on the south end of the East Campus, additional spurs, and the development of sit yards to increase capacity and flexibility for tenants.
With over 30 miles of rail, a 350-car rail yard, and seven major rail lines converging in the region, TexAmericas Center continues to position itself as a logistics hub for the four-state area.
