TexAmericas Center Positioned for Potential $500 Million Battery Materials Project

TexAmericas Center says Northeast Texas could be in line for another major industrial investment following the announcement of a proposed joint venture between EnergyX and Wildcat Discovery Technologies focused on battery materials manufacturing.

The companies announced plans to evaluate development of a commercial-scale lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode active material facility at TexAmericas Center near Texarkana.

According to project details released Monday, EnergyX has secured site control for approximately 330 acres at TexAmericas Center while it evaluates future commercial development.

The proposed project remains in the evaluation phase and would still require EnergyX to exercise its purchase option, secure approvals, obtain financing and complete development milestones before construction could move forward.

If advanced, the commercial-scale project represents approximately $500 million in potential investment.

TexAmericas Center officials say the announcement reflects growing interest in the region’s ability to support domestic energy production, advanced manufacturing and defense-related industry.

“Projects of this scale require more than available land,” said Eric Voyles, Executive Vice President and Chief Economic Development Officer at TexAmericas Center. “They require infrastructure, utility planning, transportation access, permitting clarity and a local partner that understands how to move at the speed industry requires.”

EnergyX has reportedly invested approximately $20 million to date in its existing demonstration-scale operations.

The proposed joint venture would focus on manufacturing lithium iron phosphate cathode active material, a key component used in energy storage systems, electric vehicles, drones, defense platforms and other advanced energy applications.

Phase One of the proposed facility is designed to produce approximately 15,000 metric tonnes annually, with future expansion potential.

Officials say one of the project’s advantages is proximity to EnergyX’s existing Project Lonestar lithium operations and nearby defense and logistics assets including Red River Army Depot.

Pilot-scale activity is already underway, with EnergyX producing lithium carbonate locally while Wildcat continues development of cathode materials elsewhere as both companies work toward commercial deployment.

TexAmericas Center leaders say projects like this align with broader regional growth tied to energy storage, battery assembly, autonomous systems and defense manufacturing.

A major selling point for the site continues to be TexAmericas Center’s Qualified Sites Program, which completes environmental, engineering, infrastructure and permitting groundwork before companies begin evaluating locations.

As the Authority Having Jurisdiction for development across its property, TexAmericas Center says it can streamline permitting and coordinate infrastructure, logistics, workforce and incentive planning through a single process.

“The common thread across these opportunities is readiness,” Voyles said. “Companies tied to the next generation of energy, manufacturing and defense supply chains are looking for locations that can reduce uncertainty and support speed-to-market.”

TexAmericas Center said it will continue working with EnergyX, state agencies and regional partners as evaluation of the project moves forward.

If developed, the facility would represent another step in positioning the Texarkana region as part of America’s domestic battery materials and advanced manufacturing supply chain.
