As the Fourth of July approaches, the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department (TAPD) has launched the Safe Celebration Campaign to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday for all residents. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for illegal fireworks, the campaign aims to prevent the chaos and danger seen in recent years.
The TAPD, in partnership with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police, and Arkansas Fire Department, urges the community to celebrate responsibly. The initiative encourages families to look out for one another, teach children respect for neighbors, and foster a sense of community support.
Key Points of the Safe Celebration Campaign:
- Zero Tolerance for Fireworks: Discharging fireworks within Texarkana city limits is prohibited by law. Violators will face a fine of $145.
- Respect for Neighbors: Fireworks can cause significant distress to pets and individuals, particularly veterans. The campaign stresses the importance of being considerate of those who may be negatively affected by fireworks.
- Severe Penalties for Dangerous Acts: Directing fireworks at anyone, especially first responders, is a serious offense. Such actions will result in felony charges, with potential penalties ranging from 10 to 40 years, or even life in prison.
- Parental Responsibility: Parents will be held legally accountable for the actions of their children under the age of 18.
To offer a safe and enjoyable alternative, the “We Are Washington” event will be held on the evening of July 4, featuring food, games, and family-friendly fun.
Community Message from TAPD:
