Texarkana Shelters Mobilize to Support Community Ahead of Winter Storm

With a Winter Storm Warning in effect and freezing rain, snow, ice, and frigid temperatures forecasted for Thursday and Friday, Texarkana’s shelters are stepping up to provide warmth, meals, and safety for the homeless and others in need.

The Salvation Army, Randy Sams’ Outreach Center, and Mission Texarkana are coordinating efforts with city officials to ensure no one is left out in the cold. Each organization is opening its doors to offer shelter, hot meals, and essential supplies to those seeking refuge from the dangerous weather conditions.

    Support from Local Shelters:

    • The Salvation Army has prepared sleeping cots and is distributing warm clothing essentials to both shelter guests and those who prefer to remain in their homes.
    • Mission Texarkana and Randy Sams’ Outreach Center are also providing meals and warm accommodations, anticipating high demand as the storm arrives.

    Items Needed:
As demand increases, these shelters rely on the generosity of the Texarkana community to keep operations running smoothly. Donations of the following are urgently needed:

    • Coats, jackets, and blankets
    • Warm clothing (hats, socks, scarves, gloves)
    • Food, water, and non-perishable items

    Where to Donate:

    • The Salvation Army: 400 East 4th Street, Texarkana, AR
    • Mission Texarkana: 620 W. 4th Street, Texarkana, TX
    • Randy Sams’ Outreach Center: 402 Oak Street, Texarkana, TX

Monetary donations are also welcomed to help sustain these vital efforts.

The shelters emphasize the importance of acting quickly, as space could reach capacity as the storm intensifies. Community members are encouraged to drop off donations promptly to support those in need during this critical time.

For additional information or assistance, contact the shelters directly. Let’s work together to ensure everyone stays safe, warm, and cared for during this winter weather event.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
