In a bid to enhance the city’s infrastructure, Texarkana, Texas has commenced its much-anticipated Major Road Maintenance project for 2024, set to revamp key thoroughfares. The initiative, launched this week, is slated for completion by the end of August.
Several streets are earmarked for reconstruction, potentially causing temporary inconveniences for residents and commuters. Among those anticipated to be affected are Canadian Street, stretching from Colorado St (S) to W 40th St; Milam Street, spanning from New Boston Road to W 10th St; Airline Dr, from Prestige Ln to its southernmost concrete; and Collum Street, running from Robbins St to Lumpkin St.
Furthermore, the city aims to conduct maintenance in phases, commencing with Jones Lane from Kings Hwy to FM 559 in June, followed by Knotty Pines Street from Clear Creek Drive to Knotty Pine Place in July.
The Major Road Maintenance initiative, a continuation of efforts since 2018, has already witnessed substantial improvements in roads such as Belt Road, Cooks Lane, and College Drive. This year, the city has allocated $980,000 for roadwork. Of this amount, $872,000 will be sourced from the Major Road Maintenance fund, with an additional $108,000 allocated from the Street Department maintenance budget.
Contractors overseeing the project have assured residents of diligent traffic control measures to minimize disruptions and ensure the smooth flow of traffic throughout the duration of the projects.
