Texarkana to Celebrate Arbor Day with Free Tree Giveaway Saturday March 14

Residents will have the opportunity to add a little more green to their yards this weekend during the 12th Annual Texarkana Arbor Day Tree Giveaway.

The City of Texarkana, Texas, Keep Texarkana Beautiful, Texas A&M Forest Service, and the Bowie and Miller County Master Gardeners are teaming up to distribute 1,000 free tree seedlings to the public on Saturday, March 14.

This year’s event will take place in a new location at the The Home Depot parking lot near the garden center.

The giveaway will run from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., or until all seedlings have been distributed.

To help traffic flow smoothly, organizers ask participants to remain in their vehicles while volunteers bring the seedlings directly to them.

All of the seedlings are native to the Texarkana climate and were hand-selected by a certified arborist to thrive in the region. Species available at the event include:

    • Cherrybark Oak

    • Baldcypress

    • Nuttall Oak

    • Pecan

    • Shumard Oak

Volunteers will also provide information packets with planting and care instructions to help residents successfully grow their new trees.

Organizers say the annual event not only celebrates Arbor Day but also encourages the community to plant trees that support local wildlife, improve air quality, and enhance the beauty of Texarkana for years to come.

Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as the seedlings are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
