It is time for the much-anticipated annual Runnin’ WJ Barrel Races, one of the largest and most prestigious equine events in the country. Set against the backdrop of the Four States Fairgrounds, this iconic competition promises three days of non-stop excitement as riders from across the United States converge on Texarkana for a weekend showcase of skill, speed, and camaraderie.
The action begins Thursday, June 12, 2025, as riders and their horses arrive to participate in a full day of exhibitions in the Main Arena. These exhibitions give competitors valuable opportunities to fine-tune their techniques and familiarize themselves with the course. Slots for exhibitions can be reserved for $5 cash each at the Entry Office table.
Then, the spotlight shifts to the main events starting Friday, June 13. The day kicks off with big money races, setting the tone for a weekend packed with adrenaline-fueled competition. Books open bright and early at 7:30 a.m. and the races will run into the late-night hours.
The excitement ramps up even further on Saturday, June 14, with another added money purse, sure to draw top riders and fast times. Books again open at 7:30 a.m., and the arena will be a blur of hooves, barrels, and cheering fans from morning ‘til night.
Adding to the sense of community, Sunday morning’s events begin with a special church service, offering a moment of reflection and fellowship before the final races.
Throughout the weekend, spectators can enjoy free admission to witness the high-speed thrills of barrel racing, along with a festive atmosphere featuring vendors, food, and family-friendly entertainment.

More than just a competition, the Runnin’ WJ Barrel Race benefits Texarkana’s Runnin’ WJ Ranch equine therapy programs. Since its humble beginnings in 2008 in New Boston, Texas, this event has grown into a nationally respected tradition — supporting therapeutic horseback riding programs for individuals with disabilities while uniting the equine community for a great cause.
As the 2025 Runnin’ WJ Benefit Barrel Race marks its 17th year, organizers and supporters alike reflect with pride on how far the event has come — from a modest local race to a beacon of horsemanship and philanthropy in the region.
