TTFD Firefighters to Participate in 20th Anniversary 9-11 Stair Climb

Three local firefighters with the Texarkana Texas Fire Department will participate in the Memorial Stair Climb, 110 flights of stairs in full gear in memory of the heroes who gave their lives at the World Trade Center. We were able to meet up with them for practice.

Marty Lawrence, now retired from TTFD, participated in the stair climb in 2019 at the Climb in Little Rock, Arkansas. The team from Texarkana this year will be participating in the climb held in Dallas Texas. These events are held around the country every year. The other day, Marty was able to let us join the team and ask a few questions about the specific firefighters our men will be climbing for.

For the 20th anniversary of 9/11, firefighters Eric McCasland, Dustin Newman, and Zack Flannigan will be climbing 110 flights of stairs for the fallen heroes lost on 9/11. We were able to catch up with them on a recent training day for the event. These guys will be fully rigged out in their gear, about 65 to 70 pounds of it, in 100+ temps… this ain’t easy!

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
