The Texarkana Texas Police Department reports that they are working a double fatality car crash on South Lake Drive between Caddo Street and Buchanan Road. Expect the road to be closed for the next few hours.

TTPD Lt. Shawn Vaughn reports that it is a single car accident. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and was unable to negotiate the curve, left the roadway, struck a tree and burst into flames. Two people were killed in the accident.

Lt. Vaughn reports that the car had been stolen just moments before the crash from the Rock House Liquor Store in Texarkana Arkansas.

    Press Release:

The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a single vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle on South Lake Drive that left two people dead tonight.

At approximately 9:10 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a major vehicle accident on South Lake Drive at the Waggoner Creek Bridge, which is located just south of Caddo Street.  When officers arrived, they discovered a single vehicle in the wooded area on the south side of the roadway that was fully engulfed in flames.  Both occupants died at the scene and have not yet been identified.

While information is somewhat limited at this point, we have been able to establish that the vehicle was stolen minutes before from the Rock House Liquor Store in Texarkana, Arkansas.  Based upon the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was travelling south on Lake Drive at a very high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate the curve.  It left the roadway and struck a tree, immediately bursting into flames.

South Lake Drive will be closed between Caddo Street and Buchanan Road for both north and southbound traffic for the next few hours while investigators and crime scene technicians are on scene.  Motorists are asked to choose an alternate route and avoid the area during this time.
