The much‑anticipated 49th Annual Hope Watermelon Festival, affectionately renamed Melonpalooza this year, returns to Hope Fair Park from August 7–9 for three jam‑packed days of watermelon-themed fun, delicious local food, family entertainment, and community spirit.
Organized by the Hope‑Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, Melonpalooza promises something for everyone:
-
Watermelon Olympics, seed‑spitting and eating contests
-
A classic 5K Melon Mile run and Watermelon Festival parade
-
A Car Show, Watermelon Fishing Derby, Watermelon Festival Dog Show, Junior and senior Watermelon Idol talent contests
-
Cornhole, softball tournaments, a Kidz Zone with inflatables and camel rides
-
Melon Jams Open Mic Night and a new feature, Melon Mayhem Wrestling on Friday evening
“Melonpalooza is all about celebrating what makes Hope unique,” said Chamber Executive Director Christy Burns. “We’re thrilled to bring the community together once again for an unforgettable weekend”.

The festival culminates on Saturday, August 9, with a star-studded concert. The Buzz Andrews Band will take the stage before the headlining act: The Lead Singers of Classic Rock, featuring Tommy DeCarlo (formerly of BOSTON) and Jason Scheff (formerly of CHICAGO).
