Dog lovers across the region are gearing up for a tail-wagging good time as LNKTXK presents the 2nd Annual Waggin’ Wiener Run on Saturday, April 11, at Hopkins Icehouse.
The family-friendly event, proudly presented by ITNS, will feature a full afternoon of entertainment centered around one of the crowd’s favorite attractions—Weenie Dog Races, where speedy dachshunds race to the finish line to the cheers of an enthusiastic crowd. Not to be left out, “Wiener-Be” races will follow, giving other small breeds under 35 pounds a chance to join in on the fun.
Beyond the races, organizers have planned a full slate of activities for attendees of all ages, including a pet costume contest, face painting, pet vendors, live music, and even a hot dog eating contest, which is free to enter but limited to a small number of contestants who register on-site.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Texarkana Animal League, helping support animals in need throughout the community.
Adding to the excitement this year, the iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will be making a special appearance. Attendees will have the chance to take photos with the larger-than-life hot dog on wheels and meet the brand’s famous “Hotdoggers,” bringing a unique slice of Americana to downtown Texarkana.
The event kicks off at 12:00 p.m. with check-in, with all participating dogs required to be registered by 12:45 p.m. Racing begins at 1:00 p.m., followed by the hot dog eating contest at 2:00 p.m., Wiener-Be races at 3:00 p.m., and a final championship race at 4:00 p.m.
Entry is $35 per dog, with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each race category, as well as for the costume contest winner. All participants will also receive a race day goodie bag.
With a mix of competition, community spirit, and lighthearted fun, the Waggin’ Wiener Run promises to be a “paws-itively” memorable event for families, pet owners, and anyone looking to support a great cause.
