This is by far one of my favorite events in all of Texarkana, “Wagons for Veterans” takes place at the Four States Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 11. Chuckwagons from all over the country make the trip to participate in this event. If you haven’t been, make this your year!
Tickets to attend are $15 for adults, and $8 for children 12 and under. The event will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11.
The Texarkana Area Chapter # 278 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. will be hosting our 5th Annual “Wagons for Veterans” to raise funds to assist local disabled and needy veterans. This event is planned to be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Four States Fairgrounds. The public is encouraged and invited to attend. For $15 ($8 for children 12 and under), you will be able to eat various menu items fixed the old-fashioned way – in cast iron pots and skillets over an open fire, just like they did on the old cattle drives. Other displays and entertainment will be on site. Also, we will have a live auction. The first four events were a success and we were able to assist local veterans and their families to a tune of close to $65,000 (as of now). This has involved everything from home repair, utility bills, building wheelchair ramps, funeral expenses, food boxes for needy veterans coming thru the local VA Clinic, school books, rent, medical aid assistance, hygiene packs & socks for homeless veterans, work clothes & boots, gasoline, burnouts, and donations to the Hero’s Pantry which feeds around 125 veterans and their families on a monthly basis. That is possible because of our sponsors and those who came out to partake of the fantastic food. Also, a big thank you to the cooks and their crews who prepared the food, and everyone who volunteered to assist on this endeavor! We are looking for sponsors for this year’s event.
