Such a sad loss for the family and friends of Captain Joe. This has just been a tragic time in history for everyone that has lost a loved one, with quarantine and all. However, TTPD Chief Schutte gave us the information to share.
Captain Joe Bunting was a good man. Thousands have reacted to social media posts regarding his sudden passing. His wife, Dr. Alice Bunting, and three sons, Joey, Sam, and John, as well as his brothers and sisters at the Texarkana Texas Police Department, are in our prayers.
The memorial service for Captain Joe Bunting will be held Sunday, May 3rd at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Hwy 67 in Texarkana, Arkansas. The family has opted for a graveside service only with no procession.
Those wishing to attend the service should arrive early and practice “social distancing” while attending.
Captain Bunting will “Lie in State” at the Texarkana Funeral Home 3515 Texas Blvd., from 8 a.m. til 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 2nd, and from 8 a.m. til 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 3rd.
Captain Joe Bunting has always been such a good man and loved by so many. As a running joke, “the man with the hats”. I would comment to him at many different events, about his poker face, but I will always remember one particular “Shop with a Cop” event at Target in Texarkana, Texas. He was interacting with some children and was grinning, and made such a wonderful event. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, Captain Joe.

Joe served law enforcement for over 40 years – including 35 years of exemplary service with our department. He held the rank of captain for the last 19 years of his career. He had previously worked for the Stephen F. Austin University and Nacogdoches Texas Police Departments. He was also a Marine Corps veteran.
During his devoted service to this department, Joe served as a Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Office of Professional Responsibility, City Marshal, Uniform Services Commander, Investigative Services Commander, and Interim Chief of Police.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Alice Bunting, and three sons, Joey, Sam, and John – as well as his brothers and sisters at the Texarkana Texas Police Department.
